Nur kurz zum Buch: Hat mir besser gefallen als der Band zuvor, wenn auch nicht so gut wie die Thursday-Next-B\u00fccher. Unbedingt lesen: The Eyre Affair<\/a>, und dann weiter machen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Krause Gedanken zum Buch: She-Hulk<\/a> wei\u00df, dass sie eine fiktive Gestalt ist, aber sie analysiert nicht. Die Helden von Jasper Fforde wissen es nicht, aber sie kommentieren den Erz\u00e4hler:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vinnie kicked the bike into life […] and tore off up the road with a screech of tyre.
„You know what this means?“ said Jack as Vinnie Craps vanished from view around a bend in the road.
„That the singular ’screech of tyre<\/em>‚ looks and sounds wrong even if it’s quite correct?“

Und sie analysieren die Handlung und wissen um den Aufbau von Geschichten:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sie analysieren Charaktere, so etwa Jack Spratt bei der psychologischen Untersuchung:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„From where I’m sitting you look like a poorly realised stereotype; a one-dimensional character without backstory or future […] Essentially, you’re nothing but a vehicle for a series of bad psychiatric jokes and a plot device to stop me getting to the truth. A threshold guardian, whose only purpose in existence is for me to circumvent it – which I’m doing right now, if you haven’t noticed.“

Ich erw\u00e4hne dass nur, weil ich schon lange mal diese Zitate aus Lost in the Funhouse<\/em> von John Barth<\/a> loswerden wollte – eine Sammlung von experimentierfreudiger Kurzprosa, die trotzdem anregend und vergn\u00fcglich zu lesen ist. Und diese Zitate scheinen mir mit den Jasper-Fford-Zitaten verwandt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„A person who can’t verb adverb ought at least to speak correctly.“
„Love affairs, literary genres, third item in exemplary series, fourth“
„But little does he know of the common noun concealed for months in her you name it, under her eyelet chemise.“

„Of that genre he was as contemptuous as of the others aforementioned; but while in the introductory adverbial clauses it seemed obvious to him that he didn’t „stand for“ anyone else, any more than he was an actor playing the role of himself, by the time he reached the main clause he had to admit that the question was unanswerable, since the „real“ man to whom he’d correspond in a roman \u00e0 clef would not be also in the roman \u00e0 clef and the characters in such works were not themselves aware of their irritating correspondences.“

In diesem Sinne: Das ist eine Zeile Text, damit die nachfolgende Fu\u00dfnote nicht direkt auf das vorhergehende Zitat folgt, was bl\u00f6d aussehen w\u00fcrde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Rogue: „Rogue states“ mit „Schurkenstaaten“ zu \u00fcbersetzen, ist falsch. Ich bin nicht der erste, der das anmerkt, will hier aber endlich meine kleine Reihe von Belegen f\u00fcr dieses Wort loswerden.
<\/small>
Ein „rogue elephant“ ist ein Elefant, der sich von der Herde abgesetzt hat, ein unberechenbarer Einzelg\u00e4nger.
„Rogue trooper“ ist ein Brettspiel um einen von seiner Einheiten getrennten Soldaten, der sich hinter den feindlichen Linien allein durchschl\u00e4gt.
K\u00e4se: „The elves had stripped it of everything edible […], although a couple of rogue cheeses in the cellar had put up quite a fight.“ (Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies<\/em>, p. 296)
Einen wild gewordenen Wellensittich („rogue budgie“) gibt es bei einer Episode von I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again<\/em> („Tim Brown’s Schooldays“, 1966\/05\/30).

Demnach hei\u00dft „rogue“ in diesem Zusammenhang nicht „schurkisch“, sondern unberechenbar, weil sich aus dem Verband der anderen und damit von gesellschaftlichen \u00dcbereink\u00fcnften gel\u00f6st habend.<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
