Man bemerkt, dass das Buch hier 1083, Bondstreet<\/em> hei\u00dft und nicht, wie von mir ehedem notiert, 1083, Bond Street<\/em>. Ich f\u00fchre das, ehrlich gesagt, darauf zur\u00fcck, dass ich damals eine andere Auflage in den H\u00e4nden hatte. Ich bin bei Literaturangaben sonst n\u00e4mlich peinlich genau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wie wir inzwischen alle wissen, scheint es weder Autor noch Buch zu geben. Ich bleibe dran an der Geschichte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did manage to get hold of the book, the less intriguing one: A collection of world records, unique items and interesting facts. On page 173 it says under the heading of „strangest mystery novel“:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philip J. Hindle-Briscall, one of the best-known English writers of mystery fiction, is having extraordinary success with his latest work, „1083 Bondstreet“ [sic]. He had the brilliant idea to show in the course of the mystery story that the guilty person can only have been the reader.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

(very literally translated from German; full bibliographical data see above; also, note that the title of the book is given as 1083, Bondstreet<\/em> rather than 1083, Bond Street<\/em>, as jotted down on my slip of paper – I’m quite fussy about correct bibliographical information, so I suppose I had been looking at a different edition, though it is of course possible that I made a mistake back then)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we all know by now, there appears to be no such writer or book, though there was a gentleman bearing that name. I’ll keep you informed on any new developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
